GILI YOGA - yoga, pranayama, meditation for freediving and for life!

Yoga means union and is our natural state of being, fully connected and totally conscious. We cannot do yoga. What we can do are yoga practices which uncover what it is that is blocking our natural state of love, peace, and bliss. Yoga celebrates the body as a treasure map, guiding us inward to the comfort and wisdom within.

Through yoga (asana), pranayama (breathing excercises), and meditation we create situations where you learn what it is that is restricting you from samadhi- being happy always. By heating things up on the yoga mat we begin a process of purification. Yoga poses build an internal fire which burns away anything that inhibits the full expression of the Self.

Gili Yoga offers yoga classes, workshops and retreats for anyone who wants to learn and evolve.  Yoga is an ancient science which improves flexibility, circulation and strength, but more than that these ancient techniques cultivate comfort and stability in all aspects of life.

Vinyasa flow classes are creative free-form yoga classes which harmonize breath and movement in a dynamic sequence of poses. Through Vinyasa –breath-synchronized movement- you access flow, a unified state of awareness.  Vinyasa flow classes are often a challenge in sweat and stamina.  Through heat and intelligently sequenced poses, these classes are aimed to help you go deeper and deeper, into the poses, your body and ultimately your Self.

At Gili Yoga, Hatha yoga classes are a slower paced balance of asana (postures), pranayama and meditation. With ha meaning "sun" and tha meaning "moon," Hatha Yoga is commonly translated as the yoga that brings union "of the pairs of opposites." Inspired by more traditional techniques these classes have a strong emphasis on sensing alignment from within and without helps to cultivate a higher level of overall awareness.

YOGA and FREEDIVING

So how are yoga and freediving connected? Freediving and yoga are connected philosophically, mentally and physically.  Whether you want to increase your vital capacity, decrease your residual volume or learn to relax more during a breath-hold, yoga will help you to take your freediving to the next level.

Yoga aims to help us recognize and release anything which blocks us from living at our full potential.  The asana, or poses, are designed to align the body so we may sit in stillness without distraction. In yoga and in freediving, stress, tension and negative thoughts distract us from our inner peace and stillness. Learning to cultivate present moment awareness is paramount to progression in freediving.
